Gerette Buglion

Gerette Buglion wants to live in a world where cult leaders, narcissistic abusers, and unethical, manipulative marketing techniques are spotted, called out, and silenced, creating more opportunities for nourishing relationships to flourish. Her work as educator and consultant centers on liberation from coercive control and supporting the integrative power of writing for survivors of cultic relationships through Writing to Reckon™ programs. Her passion for understanding influence and human behavior is at the core of her favorite conversations. She is a Co-founder and Executive Director for the nonprofit Living Cult Free and author of her memoir An Everyday Cult, and Writing to Reckon Journal - for Survivors of Spiritual, Religious and Cultic Abuse. Gerette’s Writing to Reckon™programs have been helping writers find their voice since 2020. Gerette also facilitates the bi-annual writing symposium for survivors titled: Reclaiming Autonomy Through the Written Word.
B.A. in Elementary Education and Special Education, — and her ‘Master's Degree’ in cult awareness education came from the school of life.
Reckoning with the impact of being gaslit - and moving beyond its grip - is the life that I’ve signed up for. Maybe I can help you.
Here’s what you need to know about me to help you decide:
-
I’m not an expert.
-
I’m not a therapist.
-
I’m a nerdy educator.
-
I swear a lot (Don’t worry: I naturally temper it, if you don’t)
-
I might cry and sometimes I get angry while listening to fellow survivors. (I too am a survivor. I was in a self-help cult based on working with dreams for 18 years)
-
I’m fierce about connecting the dots between the world and the culty shenanigans that have undermined smart, beautiful people like you. And me.
-
Free from the culty obsession with “personal transformation”, I now grow in community with other survivors through soulful, diverse inquiry.
-
My job is to help you discover the path forward - in your words, at your pace, and with the dignity you deserve.
-
When honesty, kindness, and mutual respect are at the table I show up 100%.
-
I love words. I struggle with and love writing.
-
I have well-tuned ears that are sensitive to what’s hard for survivors to say and what can easily be missed.
-
Oh. And I laugh A LOT. I’m not funny. It’s just that I love noticing when life tickles us.
