C.Alexandria Bernard
Survivor · Poet · Unapologetic Truth-Teller

C. Alexandria Bernard is an award-winning poet, performer, teaching artist, and advocate whose work stands at the intersection of truth-telling, healing, and radical self-definition. A Queer Black non-binary survivor, C. harnesses the power of language to challenge silencing systems and restore agency through intentional authorship.
Named a Pioneer of Poetry by the National Underground Spoken Word Poetry Awards (NUSPA) and a 2019 Poet Laureate of Alexandria, VA nominee, C. brings a genre-defying voice to their writing and performance work. Their poetry has appeared in anthologies, journals, and magazines, and they have been featured in spaces ranging from The New York Times to becoming the first poet highlighted in Swerv Magazine.
At the heart of C.’s work is a deep commitment to shifting the narrative from harm to choice. Through poetry and narrative, they explore how survivors can name their experiences without being consumed by them — moving from reaction to intention. Writing, for C., is not about reliving trauma, but deciding how it is held, what it does not get to take, and where agency is restored.
In addition to their creative work, C. leads Writing to Wellness™, a discussion-based writing workshop, and educates adults on how to respond to Child Sexual Abuse. They have received honorable mentions from World Childhood Foundation USA and Buddy Speaks, and have taught and performed at institutions including Georgetown University, Howard University, Jefferson University, and Angelina College.
C.’s work invites survivors to claim voice, clarity, and presence — and to be authors of their own becoming.
