Patriarchy Disruptor

Katherine Spearing, MA, CTRC, is the founder of Tears of Eden, a nonprofit supporting survivors of spiritual and religious abuse. An author, trauma recovery practitioner, and longtime advocate for reclaiming agency after harm in high-demand belief systems, Katherine brings together scholarly depth, lived experience, and creative practice in her work.
With a Master of Arts in Religion and Cultures, she works primarily with women and artists impacted by patriarchy and religious trauma, helping them rebuild trust in their own inner authority. Katherine is the former executive producer and host of Uncertain, a pioneering podcast that helped name and illuminate the realities of spiritual abuse through thoughtful conversation and storytelling.
At the heart of Katherine’s work is a belief in the power of writing and art as tools for both resistance and repair. She explores how different forms of writing serve different stages of healing — from fiction as a space to reimagine freedom and choice, to memoir and reflective nonfiction as practices that require discernment, care, and support. Her approach emphasizes challenging inherited narratives without sacrificing oneself in the process.
Katherine is the author of A Thousand Tiny Paper Cuts and a published novelist. She is also active in improv theater as both a performer and coach, underscoring her belief in creativity, embodiment, and play as essential to healing.
